SEWI Library Directors Retreat 2020: Re-energize
Friday, December 4, 2020
This year has had a lot of challenges and changes. Take some time to recharge your battery, find techniques that will help you and your staff, share team-building activities and take back some new ideas you can implement. Attend any or all sessions–your choice!
9:30 – 10:30 am Emotional Intelligence & Mindfulness: Awareness, Adaptability & Empathy for Library Directors with Bill Marklein, Employ Humanity
Everybody is looking for a better human connection experience. With the ongoing pandemic and rapid acceleration of technology, artificial intelligence, distractions, change and stress, Emotional Intelligence is even more crucial for building healthy, trusting relationships both personally and professionally. Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the ability to effectively manage our own emotions and the emotions around us and it is quickly becoming the #1 competency for workplace leadership while mindfulness techniques can help increase your EI by promoting emotional regulation and mitigate impulsiveness. Most importantly, building a healthy relationship with yourself since you can never pour from an empty cup. Bill will inspire and get you excited about Emotional Intelligence and show you creative ways to use EI and mindfulness techniques to help you become the best version of yourself so you can better lead your library team. Please note this session will not be recorded.
11:00 am – 12:00 pm Reset – Yoga @ Work with Kelly TerKeurst
Having a hard time focusing? Maybe sitting at your desk WAY too long? It’s time to give your mind and body a bit of a reboot! Former library director, Kelly Terkeurst will show some yoga techniques you can use throughout your day to calm your mind and relax your body. Kelly has been living in England, so she will also share how public libraries in England have been impacted by the ongoing pandemic.
Open until 6:00 pm Jamboard: Team Building Ideas
Share team building activities you’ve done at your library this past year. You can post on Jamboard, a free Google app that is like an electronic bulletin board, to post a short description, photos, links, drawings–anything you want to share. You can even leave some reactions to posts you see. Registrants will receive a Jamboard link on December 4. A view-only copy will be available afterwards. Curious about Jamboard? Watch a 1:40 minute introduction to Jamboard and then take a look at the Jamboard posts from our October SEWI Adult Public Programming Meetup here.
This program is sponsored by the Southeastern Wisconsin (SEWI) public library systems: Arrowhead Library System, Bridges Library System, Kenosha County Library System, Lakeshores Library System, Milwaukee County Federated Library System, and Monarch Library System.
